In 2016, the Sahara Conservation Fund (SCF), in collaboration with the government of Chad and the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, began a program to reintroduce this species to its original habitat. Several oryx from The Wilds were part of the original group released to improve the genetic diversity of their World Herd, which became a source of animals for the reintroduction program. With the new calves born in the wild for the first time in over 30 years, the reintroduced population is now over 360 animals, including relatives of the herd at The Wilds.
