University Partners
The Wilds works actively with a number of higher education institutions to develop innovative professional training opportunities. Here are some of the colleges and universities we’re working with, along with examples of programs completed or in progress:
The Ohio State University
- Adjunct faculty – Dr. Evan Blumer and Dr. Barb Wolfe both teach specialized courses in the College of Veterinary Medicine
- Ohio LEAD – This collaborative program is to develop Wilds-based coursework for OSU’s agriculture and environment leadership program’s current students and alumni
Muskingum College
- Conservation Science major – The Wilds has worked closely with Muskingum College to develop one of the nation’s first undergraduate programs in this relatively new, interdisciplinary field of study
- Teacher pre-service training – Coursework in restoration ecology, conservation and related fields and utilizing these sciences in school curriculum
Ohio University
- Restoration Ecology Workshop – On-site course introducing students for the field of Restoration Ecology and Conservation
- Conservation message retention – A collaborative effort with Ohio University and Denison University where Wilds safari tour participants complete a brief survey to gain information about what message they take home, and follow-up to see what they retain over time.
