Wilds "Alumni"
One of the key professional training opportunities at the Wilds is the post-doctoral residency in Wildlife and Conservation Medicine. In addition to Dr. Rachel Weiss, the current post-doc, two veterinarians have successfully completed advanced training at the Wilds:
Dr. A. Rae Gandolf was the first veterinarian to complete the post-doctoral residency at the Wilds, from 2001 through 2003. Her involvement at the Wilds began in 1998, shortly after she completed her veterinary degree at The Ohio State University. She continued for a number of years as a Research Associate, and provided relief veterinary care before assuming full-time research and clinical work at the Wilds. Dr. Gandolf was involved in a number of research projects while at the Wilds, including field work in Uganda with fish eagles. She is now Associate Veterinarian at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.
Dr. Tiffany Wolf completed her residency in June of this 2006. A graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Wolf has been involved in a number of projects that have expanded the scope of the Wilds’ conservation medicine program. In addition to research on West Nile Virus in the native kestrel population, she has helped advance projects involving freshwater mussels and Eastern hellbenders. Dr. Wolf recently accepted a position at the Minnesota Zoo, and is exploring additional post-graduate study opportunities.
