Southern White Rhino
Ceratotherium simum simum
Status: Near threatened (IUCN) SSP
Range: Southern Africa
White rhinos are two-horned grazers (grass eaters), with keen smell and poor eyesight. Research has shown that breeding programs are more successful when white rhinos live in larger groups. The wide open space of the Wilds allows the rhinos to live in more natural social groups. The Wilds is the only known facility in North America where third-generation white rhinos are being born.
