This specieshas been extinct in the wild since the mid-1970's. In 2007, an oryx born at the Wilds was part of a group sent to Tunisia for a reintroduction project. This species is well suited for its desert habitat, conserving water by not sweating until it reaches 115° F and limiting water loss through specialized kidneys.
