Pe`re David’s Deer

Pe`re David’s Deer

Elapharus davidianus

Status: Extinct in wild (IUCN)
Range: Formerly all of mainland China
The Pe`re David’s deer was extinct in the wild by the late 1800s and survives only because a few animals had been sent to captive programs in Europe. Almost 100 years later this species was reintroduced into protected reserves in parts of China where they once roamed free.
