Bactrian Deer

Bactrian Deer

Cervus elaphus bactrianus

Status: Endangered (USFWS)
Range: Central Asia, parts of the Middle East
Bactrian deer are a member of the red deer family and live in riparian corridors surrounded by desert. They are one of the least studied deer species. Armed conflicts in the region have contributed to drastic population declines. Conservation programs including habitat restoration and reintroductions have helped bring back wild populations.
