Status: Endangered in Ohio (ODW)
Range: Northeastern and Midwestern United States
Called the ‘Allegheny alligator,’ this aquatic salamander can reach up to 29 inches (including the tail) and weigh up to 5.5 lbs. Scientists from the Wilds have been assisting with survey work to determine the health status of the remaining wild populations.
Plans are also underway for a captive breeding facility at the Wilds. Not viewable on Safari tour.
