Sichuan Takin
Proceeds from this year’s EcoThon will
help support the important conservation work for Sichuan takin.
The
Sichuan takin is native to the mountainous Sichuan province area of China,
and can also be
found in Bhutan, India, and Myanmar. There are only a few thousand left living
in the wild. They are unusual looking animals. Although a member of the goat
family, their odd shaped bodies create comparisons to bison and bears. This
species is at risk because of habitat loss, habitat degradation, and hunting.
The
Wilds is able to offer critical support for the Sichuan takin. The Wilds' breeding
program is off to a successful start with the birth of five kids in 2008. The
Wilds
is now home to the largest herd of Sichuan takin in North America.
Your support
is critical to this important project. Thank you for playing your part to help
us in our mission to advance conservation through science, education, and personal
experience.
