Nomad Ridge at the Wilds Opens to the Public
Cumberland, OH (June 30, 2009) – Nomad Ridge at the Wilds,
a luxury tented-camp experience, opens to the public July 1.
Nomad Ridge offers visitors an immersive experience at the Wilds,
helping to achieve part of the Wilds’ mission by advancing
conservation through visitor experiences.
Nomad Ridge is comprised of 11 yurts situated atop a ridge near
the Wilds’ visitor center area. A yurt is a nomadic-style
structure made of canvas stretched over a wooden frame. The luxury
yurts at Nomad Ridge are built on platforms and feature bamboo
flooring, screened windows, solid wood doors, a private bathroom
with shower, and Asian-inspired décor.
Three woodland yurts and one grand yurt are open to guests for
the 2009 season. A Wilds staff person will stay overnight in
the concierge yurt to assist visitors with their stay. The remaining
six woodland yurts will be open in 2010.
Nomad Ridge overlooks the Wilds’ open-range animal areas,
allowing guests to observe species like greater one-horned rhinos
and Sichuan takin, along with views of several lakes and miles
of rolling landscape.
“We are proud to have developed this unique overnight
experience that will allow visitors a full opportunity to appreciate
the Wilds on a deeper level,” said Dr. Evan Blumer, Executive
Director of the Wilds.
The yurts at Nomad Ridge feature well-appointed interior design
and each has its own private deck with outdoor seating. A large
community observation deck with a fire ring is open to all guests.
One yurt is ADA accessible. Yurts have either one queen bed,
two double beds, or one king bed.
Each yurt is designed to accommodate two people. The overnight
package includes dinner and breakfast for two, choice of day
tours (Safari Transport Pass or Open-Air Safari) for two people,
and staff concierge assistance for planning additional activities
at the Wilds.
Specialty tours like The Wilds Side Tour or Sunset Safaris may
be added to the overnight package for additional fees and based
on availability.
Because of the private getaway nature of this experience, guests
at Nomad Ridge at the Wilds must be age 21 or older. For adults
with children, Family Camp Weekends are available on select weekends
throughout the season. Family Camp Weekends allow visitors to
stay in rustic yurts at the Wilds’ Conservation Education
Camp and include experiential programs designed to meet the interests
of children and adults of all ages.
Nomad Ridge at the Wilds is open daily May through October.
Advance reservations are required for Nomad Ridge at the Wilds
and Family Camp Weekends. For information and pricing, contact

The Wilds, located on nearly 10,000 acres in Southeast Ohio,
is one the largest and most innovative conservation centers in
the world. Safari tours are available to the public from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. every day June through August, and weekends in May,
September and October.
The mission of the Wilds, a nonprofit organization, is to advance
conservation through science, education, and personal experience.
