The Wilds Offering Two Winter on the Wilds Programs in March

Cumberland, OH (Feb. 26, 2009) – Even though the Safari Transport visitor season at the Wilds doesn’t begin until May, Winter on the Wilds programs highlight unique conservation education opportunities at the Wilds during the late winter season.

Situated on nearly 10,000 acres in southeast Ohio, the Wilds provides an excellent opportunity to explore and experience forest, wetland, and prairie habitats.

Visitors can observe native wildlife, learn from the Wilds’ conservation education staff, and experience some behind-the-scenes opportunities with the Wilds’ managed species – rare and endangered animals from around the world.

Designed by the Wilds’ professional conservation education staff, the day-long programs take place on Saturdays and provide immersive and memorable learning opportunities on a wide variety of topics.

Winter on the Wilds programs taking place in March are as follows:

March 7 – Walking Wild Tour
Take a walk on the Wilds side by spending time in the great outdoors. Enjoy a walk to a waterfall or wetland area and learn about Leave No Trace ethics. Later, visit the Carnivore Center and take a pasture tour that includes a stop at one of the winter facilities to see rhinos or giraffes up close.

March 14 – Welcome Spring Tour
Get ready because here it comes – warmer weather and longer days. Take a pasture tour to look for signs of spring, including how animals adapt to weather changes. Tour includes a stop at the giraffe barn. Then, look for more signs of spring on a leisurely trail walk. We’ll help you make a toad abode to take home. Additional $5 materials fee.

Cost for all Winter on the Wilds programs is $15 for adults and $9 for children 11 and under. Programs are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Reservations and pre-payment are required. Contact the Wilds’ Reservations Coordinator at 740-638-5030 ext. 2286 or reservations@thewilds.org. The reservation deadline is the Tuesday before each program. Space is limited. Early registration is recommended.
